Pre-Op Physiotherapy, also known as prehabilitation, is a proactive approach designed to prepare your body for an upcoming surgical procedure. The primary goal of pre-op therapy is to optimize your physical condition, strength, flexibility, and overall health before surgery, ensuring that you enter the operating room in the best possible state. This preparation can lead to a smoother surgical experience and a more efficient recovery process.
To prepare for pre-op therapy, you will first have a consultation with a qualified physiotherapist who will assess your current physical condition, taking into consideration the specific surgical procedure you will undergo. Based on this assessment, a personalized therapy plan will be created, which may include targeted exercises, stretching, balance and coordination training, and strengthening programs. The physiotherapist will also educate you about the surgical procedure, post-operative expectations, and strategies to manage pain and swelling during recovery.
Engaging in pre-op physiotherapy has several benefits. By improving your overall physical health, strength, and flexibility, you can reduce the risk of complications during surgery, minimize post-operative pain, and shorten the recovery period. Furthermore, pre-op therapy prepares you mentally for the surgical process, allowing you to approach the procedure with greater confidence and peace of mind. Take control of your surgical journey and set yourself up for success with our Pre-Op Physiotherapy program. Don't leave your recovery to chance – prepare your body and mind for the best possible outcome. Schedule a pre-op consultation with our experienced therapists today.
Post-Op Physiotherapy is a crucial component of the recovery process following a surgical procedure. Its primary goal is to help you regain mobility, strength, and function, while effectively managing pain and swelling. By participating in a personalized post-op therapy program, you can expect a faster return to daily activities, sports, and work, ultimately improving your overall quality of life after surgery.
To prepare for post-op therapy, you will first consult with a qualified physiotherapist, who will evaluate your specific surgical procedure and current condition. Based on this assessment, a tailored therapy plan will be developed, which may include a combination of exercises, manual therapy, and therapeutic modalities such as massage, acupuncture, or cold laser therapy. Throughout the recovery process, your physiotherapist will monitor your progress, make necessary adjustments to your therapy plan, and provide guidance on how to safely and effectively resume your daily activities.

In an effort to enhance post-operative care for residents, the Manitoba Government has introduced a new initiative. This initiative aims to facilitate access to physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for individuals who have undergone total hip and knee replacement surgeries. To be eligible, individuals must have had their surgery on or after January 1, 2023, and must not have received any prior treatment.
Starting April 1, 2023, these eligible individuals can avail themselves of up to six individual physiotherapy sessions or participate in up to 10 group sessions. One of the key features of this initiative is the flexibility it offers to patients. They have the liberty to choose any licensed provider from any physiotherapy clinic within Manitoba. This ensures that patients can select a provider that aligns with their specific needs and comfort, thereby promoting a more personalized and effective recovery process.
